The Pressure Test

Apply these questions to a difficult process — a complaint, performance issue, restructure, conflict, volunteer removal or membership decision. Architecture shows its true shape under pressure.

  1. 1.Would the same process apply if the matter involved a senior, liked or trusted person?

  2. 2.Would the process be understandable and usable by the least powerful person in the organisation?

  3. 3.Does information reach the right people reliably and directly?

  4. 4.Does the person affected have a genuine opportunity to speak and respond?

  5. 5.Are decisions documented, with reasons?

  6. 6.Does responsibility sit with the correct role, with matching authority?

  7. 7.Are safeguards preserved when things become urgent?

  8. 8.Could the organisation clearly explain why it acted as it did?
