The Chaplain Safety Scan
Mark each item In place / Partly / Not in place / Unclear. Then choose three to raise, and name the person you will raise them with. Compassion does not remove work health and safety obligations.
Physical safety
Someone knows where I am and when I am expected back.
I have a working means of calling for help wherever I work.
Lone-work arrangements exist and are followed in practice.
I am included in emergency, evacuation and lockdown procedures.
I have had site-specific safety and security induction.
After-hours and off-site attendance has an agreed protocol.
Psychological safety
I have regular reflective supervision, independent of line management.
Debriefing is available after critical incidents, and I use it.
My workload is defined and reviewed by someone able to change it.
My availability has limits the organisation supports, not merely tolerates.
Someone would notice if I were not coping.
Relational safety
I can decline a request without a cost I cannot afford.
I am included in relevant handovers and communication.
Concerns I raise are acknowledged in a way I can point to.
I know who speaks for me if host and provider disagree.
Structural safety
A written agreement covers my role, access, confidentiality and escalation.
Someone is named as responsible for my safety on this site.
There is a concern pathway that does not depend on goodwill.
There is protection from detriment for using it.
My three priorities
