Your learning continues in The Arcanum

Every enrolled student receives 12 months complimentary access to The Arcanum — whether enrolment is paid, free, through a discount or access code, or through a workplace code. Institute ebooks hosted in our own reader are also free through your student account.

The 12 months start with your first eligible Institute enrolment; later enrolments do not restart the clock. No automatic renewal or charge. The Arcanum is optional, and public resources remain freely available. Only titles with a loaded reader edition are available; outside-retailer ebooks and paperbacks are not included.

  2. Open The Arcanum from your student account; check your access dates on your membership page.
  3. Read the Institute reader editions in My Library.

Control can be difficult to recognise where loyalty, service, professionalism or spiritual commitment are highly valued. A harmful demand may be presented as dedication. A concern may be recast as disloyalty. A person may carry responsibility while having little real power to make decisions or question those above them.

This course helps employees, volunteers and church members examine patterns that affect their ability to speak, disagree, rest, set limits and participate freely. It uses the same eight lenses as the personal relationships course, with examples drawn from organisational life.

In this course, coercion and control are educational descriptions of behaviour and its function. They do not automatically establish a criminal offence, employment claim or safeguarding threshold. Workplace bullying, psychosocial hazards, discrimination and spiritual abuse have their own definitions and processes. These distinctions do not require you to ignore harmful conduct while deciding what label applies.
